 The 2014 edition of Wimbledon is still in its infancy, but it's already shaping up to be a memorable tournament. Day 3 from the All England Club provided plenty of intrigue. Victoria Azarenka was ousted from the tournament in three sets by Bojana Jovanovski. Novak Djokovic was even pushed to the limits in a four-set thriller against Radek Stepanek. Just a few weeks after capturing yet another French Open title, Rafael Nadal now shifts his focus to winning Wimbledon. If his exploits since Roland Garros are any indication, it won't be easy.

Nadal's first foray into grass-court play this season resulted in a 4-6, 1-6 loss to Dustin Brown in the Gerry Weber Open. His first-round victory in London over Martin Klizan didn't do much to inspire confidence either.

Now Rafa will be on upset alert against a familiar foe. In 2012, Nadal followed up a French Open victory with a second-round Wimbledon loss to Lukas Rosol in the second round—the exact same situation he faces in 2014.


There are no stars in this year's Wimbledon tournament with more pressure to win than world No. 1 Serena Williams.

Williams enters Wimbledon fresh off a shocking second-round upset loss to Garbine Muguruza in the French Open and looking to reposition herself as the most dominant woman in the sport. As the icing on the cake, she's also looking to win an incredible sixth Wimbledon title, as tweeted out by the official Wimbledon account:


The sixth win would allow Serena to pass her sister, Venus Williams, on the list for most wins in the prestigious tournament.

Williams has easily defeated Chanelle Scheepers in their previous two matches (played in 2012), so there's no reason to believe that Williams will struggle. Then again, no one expected her to struggle in the second round at Roland Garros.


If Roger Federer is ever going to win career slam No. 18, he won't find a better opportunity than Wimbledon this year. At 32 years old, he's not getting any younger, and the grass at the All England Club has always been kind to the legend.

Throw in the fact that his last slam victory came here in 2012, and it's clear that this might be the last tournament in his championship window.

Federer certainly looked the part of Wimbledon champion in his first match of the tournament. He defeated Paolo Lorenzi in straight sets to open up his campaign. Now the attention shifts to fellow elder statesman Gilles Muller.

Defeating his 31-year-old opponent in similar fashion will be crucial. Another easy cruise to victory in the second round would mean continued rest for the aging Federer as he advances through the draw.
