Formula One makes its return to Germany this week, and Sunday will see Mercedes attempt to cement its place at the head of the constructors' standings with triumph on home soil.

As things stand, the exploits of Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton have been enough to give the German brand a substantial lead of more than 150 points, but will that gap be maintained after this weekend's hunt in Hockenheim?

To make sure you don't miss a minute of the drama, Sunday's start time and line-up are detailed ahead, with a brief look at which drivers will be most worth paying attention to.

It's been a roller-coaster week for Rosberg, who saw his wedding celebrations happily intertwine with Germany's World Cup win before then penning a new contract with Mercedes, per The Independent.

And now, what's been a stellar period of German success could be made all the more significant should the 29-year-old be able to top the billing in Hockenheim and claim his fourth win of the season.

The Associated Press confirm Rodberg's good form at present, too, after he ended opening practice in the fastest time:

Of the field taking to Hockenheim this Sunday, no driver has been more successful at the German Grand Prix than Fernando Alonso, winning the contest three times in the past decade (2005, 2010, 2012).

The Spaniard gained massive plaudits for his risky pass on Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel at Silverstone last time out, but Alonso quickly moved to assure fans such manoeuvres won't be attempted again:

It's a slight shame for those who want to see the fastest possible action in the sport, but perhaps Alonso will feel confident of adding a third German title to his belt without the need for such antics.

After Alonso, Hamilton isn't too far behind in German Grand Prix championships, having won two of his own in the last seven seasons (2008, 2011).

And after he could only manage a finish of fifth at this event in 2013, the Mercedes representative will feel entirely more confident of claiming a podium place on Sunday, searching for a sixth win of the 2014 campaign.

The Briton got some revenge in practice, too, claiming the fastest lead over teammate Rosberg after the second session, per Sky Sports F1:

Hamilton's win at Silverstone earlier this month was the perfect response to his second-place finish in Austria, and putting together another triumphant streak, as he did at the start of this season, will be the next objective at hand.
