Former Wales skipper Matthew Rees will make an emotional return for Wales after being included in the touring squad following treatment for testicular cancer. The 33-year-old has 33 caps to his name since making his international debut in 2005, per BBC Sport.Rees joined Cardiff Blues this season after eight years with Scarlets but his campaign was halted in difficult circumstances after his diagnosis in October 2013.

However, he returned to his club side in March and has since made a big enough impact to force his way back into international contention.Rees took to his Twitter account to thank the fans for all the support he had been shown:

Rees featured in Wales' warm-up victory against Eastern Province Kings on Tuesday—a 34-12 win for the tourists, as reported on by BBC Sport.

His return created a tidal wave of jubilant support, with many of rugby's biggest names publicly congratulating the player. Welsh legend Halfpenny led the tributes:

Rees' quick return to the fold will be of great inspiration to his team-mates ahead of the Test series in South Africa.

With several experienced Welsh campaigners not being able to make the tour due to injury, Rees will be looked towards for leadership and guidance.

Welsh coach Warren Gatland will need the forward's experience at this level to help make this series full-blooded and competitive.
